As we progress on a path of integration, we become focused not just on our personality but our universality. Our multi dimensionality starts to pervade our being. The value we begin to place on our expanse, rather than our limitations is an outcome of the yogic re connective practices. These tools and principles help us commune and be absorbed in the subtler aspects of ourselves, rather than just the physical or superficial.
The yogic perspective is that we are not just a physical being or have an annamaya kosha but that we have other dimensions. We have a pranamaya kosha or a pranic/energy field or body , a manomaya kosha or a mind field or sheath, as well as have cosmic fields we are connected to. As we align our personal three fields with the cosmic wisdom field and bliss field we are more absorbed into the beauty of this interconnected universe and the potential it holds for us. We also feel supported by the wealth of wisdom that we have access to through aligning with the vigyanama kosha or the great wisdom field. We also experience a more unconditional bliss rather than conditional happiness/excitement by aligning with the anandamaya kosha or bliss field.
That is why having a framework, structure and step by step guideline for realignment is useful. It helps us become more absorbed in the universal dimensions of self.
Spiritual narcissism
The very same principle of being present and absorbed in our expanse can get distorted where there is an unhealthy attachment to concepts and ideas one has picked up. A pre-occupation with having perfect hair or having the perfect car or image can get translated into having the perfect ascension tool, or wanting to magically transcend having to eat healthy foods, than just eating healthy foods. Or receive some magical initiation instead of empowering oneself and doing the practice to move through it. There are so many confusing escapist concepts in the new age and so called spiritual circles. These only further make the mind go into a spin rather and make the mind more self absorbed, than bring it to a place of restfulness for the purpose of coherence and ease.
A regular narcissist can be identified by their excessive self absorption. This blurs or has not allowed them to cultivate empathy. Their energy field feels like a black hole, where love, respect and attention disappear and is not reciprocated. The same can happen under the guise of spirituality. Gas lighting can happen using spiritual concepts, unresolved aggression projected without taking responsibility for one's behaviour or obsession with any of the concepts to the point of entitlement to another's time, energy or resources.
All of us need attention and affection
As we progress on the path, our need for titillation dissolves to build healthy attention leading to trust. This presence paves the way for better communication by function of understanding ourselves and our unconscious motivations better. If someone unpurified is taught deeper concepts, their emotions will become more unregulated. So these mental constructs and collecting techniques becomes an unhealthy preoccupation and can steal energy. Both or all the people involved can give and receive healthy attention towards what is best for their own as well as another's evolution. It is not a superficial, mood or hormonal attention, but being present to each other's needs in healthy ways.
I have seen many times, there is a natural weeding process that happens when one does one’s sadhana (integrative practice) with respect to those who are self absorbed. We can hold the sankalpa or intention to become more absorbed in self and less self absorbed and we will attract those who are veering towards the same. This will uplift both parties involved into more resonant and uplifting spaces. The taste for white sugar or titillation will naturally fall away and we will be satisfied only by sustaining foods and soulful connections.
